Jim and his wife, Bobbie, came here with the Army in 1979 for 3 years, and returned to live permanently in 1989. They have 3 adult children, a son here, and two older daughters in Massachusetts. and 5 grandchildren, 2 here. Jim grew up in the multi-ethnic, immigrant town of Meriden, CT. His father was one of 11 in a big Italian family, and his mother, one of 6 in a Polish family. He left for West Point in 1965. After graduation and commissioning as an Infantry Officer in 1969, he was stationed at Fort Benning, GA when he met Bobbie, then a student at Auburn University in Alabama. (turns out, both Bobbie’s parents grew up in Norwalk, CT) Army service included command at Fort Benning, a transfer to the Armor Branch, advisor training at Fort Bragg, NC; Advisor duty in DaNang Vietnam; Command in Baumholder, Germany; Advanced Armor Officer training at Fort Knox, KY; Personnel and Admin duty in Harrisburg, PA; Installation Staff and Armor Battalion duty at Fort Carson; ROTC Senior Instructor duty at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA; (Service in Europe included travel throughout, including three trips to show family Germany and Italy); Human Resources and Installation Services duty at Patch Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany; Operations duty for 6th US Army @ the Presidio of San Francisco, and a return to Colorado Springs. After a serious of temporary positions, Jim was accepted into the El Paso County Office of Emergency Management in 1992, and served the County citizens there until he retired in February 2008. He serves on the Citizens Advisory Committee for Widefield Water and Sanitation District, and served and was President for a year of the Board of Mental Health America, Pikes Peak Chapter. Jim has also been politically active for several years, including service as a Precinct Leader for at least 3 terms, is a member of the Colorado Springs Corvette Club, two golf leagues and two bowling leagues, and plays trumpet in the New Horizons Symphonic Band of Colorado Springs. Bobbie is a consultant for Organo Gold healthy herbal coffee, and Bids That Give, a website that gives 50% of profits to childrens’ relief organizations internationally/ Jim and Bobbie reside on the 10th fairway of the former, and future, Appletree Golf Club, east of Widefield in Peaceful Valley.
